Product Review: Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation & Concealer

Today we will be reviewing Maybelline's recent foundation and concealer release. The 'SuperStay Better Skin' Foundation & it's pairing Concealer.
I was sooooo excited when I first heard about these two, because the original Super Stay Foundation is one of my ultimate favourites!

Before we begin the review, I want to mention, this is not a first impressions review, I actually used this product a good month and a bit prior to this post - just because I really wanted to get a good feel and collect all of my thoughts on the products before posting it to you all.
This post will show you my thoughts on the feature of the packaging, formula, product claims and images of me using it throughout the entire day. 

Now... Shall we begin?

Claims

Looking from the Maybelline website (click HERE to view), they claim the foundation does the following:

• Specially formulated to leave a healthier and energized feel and appearance after three weeks of using. 
• Long wearing formula - last's all day
• Flawless Coverage
• Hydrates and smooths skin
• Evens skin tone 
• Reduces redness
• SPF14

On the website (click HERE to view) they also claim the Concealer does the following:

• Specially formulated to leave a healthier and energized feel and appearance after three weeks of using. 
• Long wearing formula  - lasts all day
• Flawless coverage
• Covers imperfections
• Reduces dark circles
• Evens skin tone
• Reduces redness

Packaging

Now, when I was looking at the points of the packaging for the products, I noticed that they really thought out the products packaging and I appreciate that they really thought of their consumers, in terms of convenience and quality. So well thought out Maybelline!

FOUNDATION

• Foundation contains 30mls of product. 
• Thick Glass Bottle - Good quality, some people don't like glass bottles, but I prefer glass bottles because I feel it better quality.
• Pump Dispenser - Love love LOVE when my foundations come with a pump, you get better control as to how much product comes out of the bottle and it cuts out a lot of product wastage. 
• Clear Bottle - I know this may seem like a small point to some, but I love when my foundations come in clear packaging, helps me get a good idea of how much product I have used (or have left) and of any signs of the product separating (one of the first signs of cosmetic expiry). 

CONCEALER

• Concealer contains 11mls of product. 
• Clear plastic squeezable tube - I like the idea that it is a squeezable tube, once again making it more convenient for the consumers on the control of how much of the product we squeeze out.
• Tip Applicator - Okay, guys, this is the best applicator ever. If you're like me and absolutely hate getting make up on your hands, this applicator helps so much! I just used the applicator to apply on my blemishes and used a cosmetic tool (brush or sponge) to blend. It's so convenient and mess free. 

APPLICATION & RESULTS

BARE FACE

 This is my bare, freshly washed, toned and moisturized face, before any application of products. 

As you can see I have a lot of darkness around my eyes, redness, hyper pigmentation, scarring and freckles - perfect skin conditions to see how these two products work!

AFTER APPLYING

This is the results after applying one thin (yes thin, a little goes a long way with this one) layer of foundation using a beauty sponge and dabbing it on. Spot concealing with the concealer and using the beauty sponge to blend it out. 

I did not use a primer or set the products with any powders.

When applying it:

• It was easy to manipulate and blend into the skin
• Did not feel thick or heavy on the skin
• And it did set to an almost powdery finish

Instantly after application:

• The foundation diminished all skins redness and hyper pigmentation (no concealer required for that)
• The foundation filled and hid my pores around my cheeks
• The Concealer completely hid the dark circles under my eyes
• The Concealer concealed a lot of the scarring around my cheeks, chin and temples. 

AFTER APPLYING THE REST OF MY MAKE UP

This is after applying the rest of my make up, once again I want to mention, I did not set the foundation with any powders or setting spray. 

FOUR HOURS AFTER APPLICATION

• Blemishes and dark circles were still concealed. 
• Did not show any signs of oiliness or dry patches. 
• Foundation and concealer hadn't settled into any of my fine lines.
• Was still in perfect condition!

 EIGHT HOURS AFTER APPLICATION

• Showed slight signs of oiliness on the top of my nose (I tend to get very oily on my T-Zone)
• Concealer was still in perfect condition under my eyes, but did start to fade on my chin. 
• I noticed that the foundation started to show signs of patchiness and cracking between my eyebrows. 
• I did notice some of the foundation & concealer transfer onto tissue when I had to blow my nose a few times (damn hay fever!)

FINAL VERDICT

FOUNDATION

• An awesome foundation in terms of coverage and feel on the skin. 
• Medium to full coverage foundation.
• Not at all thick or cake looking.
• Breathable and comfortable on the skin.
• Consumer friendly and well thought out packaging. 
• Did find that my skin became oily on my T-Zone after 8 hours of wearing it, so I do recommend using a settling powder if you do have oily/combination skin such as myself. 
• I wouldn't say its as long wearing as the original 24HR Super Stay Foundation, but it lasted a good 7 hours before any signs of oiliness or fading (and this was without any retouches or using oil sheets throughout the day). I definitely, once again, recommend using a setting powder.
• Now, in terms of the formula claiming to make your skin appear more healthier and energized, I wouldn't say I've seen significant changes after using it for a month and a half, but then again... I'm a mother of two under two and barely have any sleep - so good luck to any company trying to make my skin look more healthier and energized! HAHA! But in all seriousness, I didn't see any significant changes, but what I did notice was that it did not irritate or make my skin break out - which happens too often when testing out foundations that just aren't up to par. So thats an A+ in my books.

CONCEALER

 

• Convenient and well thought out packaging. 
• Good quality and full coverage concealer, definitely did a great job at covering my dark circles and blemish scarring.
• Comfortable on the skin.
• Transfers, so I do recommend setting it with a powder. 
• Does not settle into fine lines or creases. 
• Have become a big fan! This concealer worked wonders when I was experiencing post pregnancy cystic acne, this concealer is such good quality and covers up so well without irritating the skin in any slightest way.
