DIY: Faux Concrete Table Top - Industrial Style
It's completed! For a couple of weekends my hubby and I have teamed together to make our own coffee table.
Before the thought of making our own coffee table went through our heads, we were trying to go down the convenient route and shop for one. Being set on having an industrial style coffee table - it was close to impossible to find one within budget. So what do you do when you can't find a specific coffee table within your means? You make one!
Designing the table was easy, we had looked at enough designs and inspirations to know exactly what we were looking for. We knew we wanted something that looked industrial (palette preferred) and one of the elements in our lounge room is concrete. So it was easy to say... we had the design spot on.
I was going to do a DIY post and show you all instructional step by steps on how to make your very own, but in all honesty I'd be pretty much copyrighting a bunch of DIY bloggers if I do that - since I followed 2 DIY posts in making the table. I've conveniently linked those blog posts down below for you all.
When it comes to the palette (base + legs) of the coffee table, I have to give 100% credit to my husband. He designed and built it all on his own. I love him. lol.
Believe it or not the "concrete" table top is made from MDF wood.
For the structure of the table top (to make it look thick), I followed the instructions on this blog CLICK HERE. I however, didn't follow their instructions on how to concrete the surface because it didn't work out when I tried their method (the concrete wouldn't stick and kept breaking off once dry).
What did work was this instructional DIY CLICK HERE. Which turned out absolutely fabulous - durable enough to withstand my naughty kids who think the coffee table is now a new couch.
I hope you all found this blog post helpful. See you all very soon!
